EMPOWERING ACCOMPLISHED SEARCH ENTREPRENEURS & SEARCH CONSULTANTS

with VETTED BEST PRACTICES

Jeff Skrentny, CERS, was voted least likely to succeed in his training class; he had his first deal fall off. Three years later he was his firm's top producer. From top producer, to manager, to search entrepreneur, Jeff has grown in our profession from contingency placement into engaged search over his nearly 25-year career.

During that time he mastered the profession, brought its best practices to his desk, and then generously shared those best practicesback with his profession for its success. Now, an expert consultant for your profession, Jeff has been instrumental in creating best practices to prevent counteroffers, use testimonials, do  reference checking, succeed in marketing, and mange sales metrics.

What most attendees of his training love most: Jeff won't tell you what you should do; he shares with you what he actually does on his desk because he works a desk everyday just like you. Jeff has trained thousands of recruiters over the last 20 years from 34 countries, and they will tell you Jeff's ideas ARE profitably changing the way search entrepreneurs and search consultants succeed in this profession every day.

Owners Retreat Recap

The owners meeting was held at the Migis Lodge on Sebago Lake.  We had a record turnout, and for those of you who did not attend, you missed a fabulous networking event!  The round table discussion, boat ride and bonfire all happened on the first day of the event.  Attorney Gregg Frame was outstanding, and we all agreed that we could have listened to him all day as he revealed the potential liabilities we all face related to our employees on social networking sites, both during and after working hours.  Gregg was followed by Kevin McCann who was an amazing sales trainer and everyone came away wanting more of his cutting-edge view of our changed market.  If you missed them, both will be featured speakers at the NEAPS conference being held in Newport, RI this spring.  Look forward to seeing everyone at next year's meeting!

  Legislative Update

It has been an interesting ride taking on this position as NNEAPS Legislative Chair just last year.  What I thought was going to be, for lack of a better term, a "rather quiet position", well surprise, surprise!

In a combined effort from not only staffing agencies but the small business community, we were able to defeat the LLC Tax Issue.  That was a great victory but then came the other great white elephant in the room.  The SUTA tax.  This tax has enormous implications on our profession.  A big thank you to Margaret Squires and Nicole Horan for not falling asleep at the wheel and bringing this issue front and center.

With the assistance of Chris Williams (President, Nashua Chamber of Commerce) we were able to secure a meeting with Commissioner Tara Reardon from the New Hampshire Employment Securiites office.  She is working with her staff to run some models/numbers in an effort to better understand the serious financial implications that these outrageous SUTA tax rates will cause to most agencies.  Once we hear back from Commissioner Reardon, we will have a better sense of which direction we will take.  One direction is to seek reclassification of the amount of weeks that agencies would become eligible for that employee.  Another may be to seek a total reclassification of Staffing Agencies within the state of NH, or another may be to sue the state of NH.  All the options are on the table right now for discussion and consideration.  We will provide a staus update as soon as we have more information or need to vote on next steps to take.

So much for a "quiet ride".  From myself and the entire NNEAPS Legislative Team- Nicole Horan, Paul Wilson and Chris St. Cyr, we wish you all a Happy Holiday.  Be safe and take some time to enjoy your friends and family and here's to a more productive New Year and possibly quieter Legislative New Year!

Sincerely,

Steve Davis
